| Delaware Valley salutes Class of '09!
Delaware Valley High School awarded 456 men and women their diplomas June 13. The ceremony was postponed from Friday to Saturday because of a threat of thunderstorms. Chase Zimnik, the last graduate called, was first to throw his cap skyward at the end of the exercises.

Milford native Vanessa Carlton rocks 'Home'
Grammy-nominated Milford native Vanessa Carlton, at piano, wows a colossal crowd of more than 5,000 at the Milford Music Festival Saturday in Ann Street Park. "I'm having flashbacks to when I used to come to this park," Carlton said during the hourlong set. The singer grew up on Milford's Moon Valley Road; her family still lives in Shohola, where her mom Heidi runs a piano school. One of her numbers was "Home."

| DV Relay for Life honors student's memory
Last weekend's Relay for Life at Delaware Valley High School's Warrior Stadium was dedicated to Chris Bartsch, a member of the Class of 2009 who died of cancer while he attended Shohola Elementary School. His classmates remembered Chris with a dedication in their yearbook — and will remember him tonight as they accept their diplomas.

| That their light may always shine
The Delaware Valley Chapter of the Compassionate Friends gathered Dec. 14 at Long Meadow Chapel in Dingman Township to participate in the Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting. The event is held every year on the second Sunday in December at 7 p.m. local time for one hour in each time zone around the globe, a 24-hour remembrance of all children who have died.

While he was playing, Elisha's father, Larry, was at the Salvation Army's annual dinner in Port Jervis accepting Elisha's bell-ringer of the year award. The Lady Warriors squeaked past Honesdale 45-39 in overtime on Jan. 3.
Honesdale maintained a close lead into the second half. A three-pointer from Delaware Valley's Kaitlin Sabo late in the third quarter brought the Lady Warriors ahead of the Hornets for the first time of the game 22-21.

In its first league game Dec. 18, the Lady Warrior basketball team fell to Abington Heights 67-34. The Lady Comets handed DV its third loss of the season. Junior Michele Carrigan led the Warriors in scoring with nine points, including a three-pointer in the fourth quarter.

| The Lions Roar in Ann Street Park
The Milford Lions Club held its semi-annual craft show on June 4 and 5 at the Ann Street Park in Milford. All money raised will go back to the community. With hundreds of pedestrians walking around Milford for the Fourth of July ceremonies, the festival vendors were busy selling candles, dolls, jewelry, woodwork and more. The Lions Club sold baked goods and other food, offered face painting for youngsters, and held various raffles.

Denver wasn't the only city where cheering Democrats gathered Thursday evening. Around 400 people from Central New York gathered at Palace Theater on James Street for a Democratic National Convention Watch party, and though two time zones away, they joined in the applause as Sen. Barack Obama accepted the democratic presidential nomination.

Marisa Murdock can't take the underwater photography course she signed up for this semester - and it's because she's a student at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. SUNY-ESF announced Aug. 20 that state budget cuts of up to 10 percent forced the college to restrict its students from taking some elective courses through Syracuse University.
